SUMMARY:Goole 200: A History Of Goole In 200 Objects
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition explores two centuries of Goole’s rich history through 200 weird and wonderful objects from Goole Museum’s collections. \nNearly all of the artefacts on display were donated by members of the local community\, so this exhibition is very much a people’s history of Goole. \nSome of these fascinating artefacts tell the story of Goole’s origins and growth as port\, alongside the development of other industries such as shipbuilding\, alum working and clothes manufacturing. Others are more personal\, everyday items and provide a window into childhood\, home-life\, healthcare and recreation in Goole. \nIn contrast\, several objects shed light on the more dramatic episodes in Goole’s past\, including the World Wars and grand public celebrations.  Look out for the ‘spotlight’ objects\, which are artefacts that tell a particularly special story.

SUMMARY:Poetry At Goole Museum: Workshops for young people
DESCRIPTION:The first in a series of poetry workshops for budding young writers and those with an interest in working in museums\, archives or the arts takes place at Goole Museum as part of the busy programme of events planned to mark the Goole’s 200th birthday. \nOrganised by East Riding of Yorkshire Council and funded by Arts Council England\, a series of Poetry At Goole Museum workshops will be led by acclaimed poets\, including Becca Drake\, Janine Bradbury\, Maia Elsner and Charlotte Shevchenko Knight.  \nAimed at young people aged between 16 and 18 years\, the workshops will coincide with the museum’s landmark exhibition celebrating the life and work of Reuben Chappell (1870-1940)\, a Goole-born artist who is internationally recognised as one of the finest ship portraitists of the pierhead painting tradition. Participants will get the opportunity to go behind the scenes at the museum\, where they can explore the archives and learn to write about art\, environment and local history. Poetry produced by those attending the workshops will be published in a collection\, alongside the work of acclaimed poets.  \nBecca Drake\, one of the poets leading the sessions\, explained: “The workshops taking place at Goole Museum are ideal for young people with an interest in writing\, or the arts and heritage. As well as working with acclaimed poets and getting a glimpse behind the scenes of the museum\, they’ll also get to see their work in print in a special poetry collection published to mark Goole’s bicentenary year. \n“All of the poets who will be leading the workshop are experienced in working with young people and we’re staging the events across the two venues to try to encourage as many young people as to get involved. It’s not essential to attend all of the sessions\, but if you enjoy writing or are interested in working in museums\, archives or the arts\, this is an exciting opportunity that’s not to be missed.” \nFuture workshops at Goole Museum will take place on 13 and 27 June\, 11 and 25 July\, 8 and 22 August\, and 5 September between 11am and 1pm. For more information or to book a place\, please email goole.museum@eastriding.gov.uk. \nLater in the summer\, there will be an opportunity for others from the local community to get involved in a poetry workshop. Several workshops will also be hosted by The Moorlands Youth and Community Centre in Old Goole to give as many local young people as possible the chance to get involved. Further information about these sessions will be made available nearer the time. \n
