SUMMARY:Goole 200: A History Of Goole In 200 Objects
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition explores two centuries of Goole’s rich history through 200 weird and wonderful objects from Goole Museum’s collections. \nNearly all of the artefacts on display were donated by members of the local community\, so this exhibition is very much a people’s history of Goole. \nSome of these fascinating artefacts tell the story of Goole’s origins and growth as port\, alongside the development of other industries such as shipbuilding\, alum working and clothes manufacturing. Others are more personal\, everyday items and provide a window into childhood\, home-life\, healthcare and recreation in Goole. \nIn contrast\, several objects shed light on the more dramatic episodes in Goole’s past\, including the World Wars and grand public celebrations.  Look out for the ‘spotlight’ objects\, which are artefacts that tell a particularly special story.

SUMMARY:Poetry At Goole Museum: Free workshop for young people
DESCRIPTION:The latest session in a series of poetry workshops for budding young writers and those with an interest in working in museums\, archives or the arts takes place at Goole Museum as part of the busy programme of events planned to mark the Goole’s 200th birthday. \nOrganised by East Riding of Yorkshire Council and funded by Arts Council England\, a series of Poetry At Goole Museum workshops will be led by acclaimed poets\, including Becca Drake\, Janine Bradbury\, Maia Elsner and Charlotte Shevchenko Knight. \nAimed at young people aged between 16 and 25 years\, the workshops will coincide with the museum’s landmark exhibition celebrating the life and work of Reuben Chappell (1870-1940)\, a Goole-born artist who is internationally recognised as one of the finest ship portraitists of the pierhead painting tradition. Participants will get the opportunity to go behind the scenes at the museum\, where they can explore the archives and learn to write about art\, environment and local history. Poetry produced by those attending the workshops will be published in a collection\, alongside the work of acclaimed poets. \nBecca Drake\, one of the poets leading the sessions\, explained: “The workshops taking place at Goole Museum are ideal for young people with an interest in writing\, or the arts and heritage. As well as working with acclaimed poets and getting a glimpse behind the scenes of the museum\, they’ll also get to see their work in print in a special poetry collection published to mark Goole’s bicentenary year. \n“All of the poets who will be leading the workshop are experienced in working with young people and we’re staging the events across the two venues to try to encourage as many young people as to get involved. It’s not essential to attend all of the sessions\, but if you enjoy writing or are interested in working in museums\, archives or the arts\, this is an exciting opportunity that’s not to be missed.” \nFuture workshops at Goole Museum will take place on  27 June\, 11 and 25 July\, 8 and 22 August\, and 5 September between 11am and 1pm. For more information or to book a place\, please email goole.museum@eastriding.gov.uk. \nLater in the summer\, there will be an opportunity for others from the local community to get involved in a poetry workshop. Several workshops will also be hosted by The Moorlands Youth and Community Centre in Old Goole to give as many local young people as possible the chance to get involved. Further information about these sessions will be made available nearer the time.

SUMMARY:The Clash of the Vikings!
DESCRIPTION:Goole Vikings will take on Widnes Vikings at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds after the Betfred Championship calendar was reshaped following Featherstone Rovers’ withdrawal from the competition. \nThe two clubs agreed the dates for the newly scheduled fixtures earlier this year\, setting the stage for what has been dubbed ‘The Clash of The Vikings’. The fixtures will see two towns sharing one iconic identity going head-to-head in a unique Championship rivalry played out across two venues. \nIt seems particularly fitting that Goole Vikings’ home fixture will take place during the town’s 200th birthday month\, when a busy programme of community events\, activities and celebrations is planned and the home crowd is sure to be in a celebratory mood. \nBoth clubs are set to collaborate on a joint campaign around the fixtures\, celebrating their shared Viking heritage. \nWidnes is one of the sport’s oldest clubs and has a passionate fan base\, whilst Goole is rugby league’s newest side\, reigniting the sport that was first played in the town in the 1800s at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds\, which remains their home to this day. \nFurther ticket information and promotional details for The Clash of The Vikings will be released on the Goole Vikings RLFC website in due course.

It’s not essential to attend all of the sessions\, but if you enjoy writing or are interested in working in museums\, archives or the arts\, this is an exciting opportunity that’s not to be missed.” \nFuture workshops at Goole Museum will take place on 25 July\, 8 and 22 August\, and 5 September between 11am and 1pm.

SUMMARY:Reuben Chappell: Master Of The Masts
DESCRIPTION:This landmark exhibition celebrates the life and work of Reuben Chappell (1870-1940)\, a Goole-born artist internationally recognised as one of the finest ship portraitists of the pierhead painting tradition. Featuring over 40 of his works\, many of which have never been on public display\, the exhibition explores the fascinating features of Chappell’s compositions and how he captured some of the greatest shifts in maritime technology\, including the transition from wood to steel and the replacement of sail by steam. The dramatic and often tragic stories behind the vessels and their crews are also told. The exhibition also tells the story of Chappell’s journey as an artist and devoted family man\, from his humble childhood origins around Goole’s bustling docks to his relocation to the wild and rugged coast of Cornwall\, where his work continued through war and personal struggles.

It’s not essential to attend all of the sessions\, but if you enjoy writing or are interested in working in museums\, archives or the arts\, this is an exciting opportunity that’s not to be missed.” \nFuture workshops at Goole Museum will take place on 8 and 22 August\, and 5 September between 11am and 1pm.

SUMMARY:The Goole Bicentenary Collection: An exhibition of artwork by Peter Scott
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Goole Civic Society\, this exhibition showcases the Goole Bicentenary Collection of artwork prepared especially for Goole’s 200th anniversary by local artist Peter Scott. \nThe artwork was commissioned by Goole Civic Society for publication in a children’s history book\, which has been gifted to local primary school children for the town’s bicentenary\, and depicts selected scenes from Goole’s history. Based upon archival resources\, the original collection of paintings that Peter has created will be on display at Junction Goole in this one-off\, must-see exhibition. \nPeter Scott can trace his Goole ancestry back to the building of the port in 1826. He has illustrated more than 50 books\, including several about history and two about boats\, and his work can be found on bookshelves around the world. \nGoole Civic Society\, which has organised this event on behalf of the Goole 2026 Bicentenary Group\, would like to thank RWE Goole Fields Wind Farms Community Fund for its support. \n\nPlease note that this exhibition is open from 12 noon to 2pm on Monday\, 27 July\, and from 10am to 2pm daily from Tuesday 28 July to Saturday 1 August.
