DESCRIPTION:First screened in two sell-out shows in 2018\, Reflections On Goole is a showcase of stories and images of Goole. \nThroughout 2017\, Goole Civic Society interviewed local residents to record their memories of living and working in Goole\, and the resulting audio was woven around historic photographs and films of the town. \nWriting in 2017\, Margaret Hicks-Clarke\, Chair of Goole Society\, said: “We have collected a unique archive of memories and stories spanning Goole’s 190-year history\, which we will keep and add to for future generations.” \nAlso being shown as part of the screening are an aerial history of the Goole to Knottingley Canal\, which premiered in January of this year\, and the 2026 version of the 1926 Song of Goole\, which has been recorded by The Warblers choir. \nReflections On Goole will be screened at Junction Goole at 1pm on Sunday 19 July and again at 1pm on Monday 20 July. Passengers will be able to sit back and enjoy a traditional Cream Tea\, as an experienced guide shares insights about the port and its history. DESCRIPTION:In 1826\, the opening of the port and town of Goole was marked by the arrival of 50 vessels\, which had navigated the length of the new Knottingley to Goole Canal\, arriving to much fanfare at the newly-built Goole Docks. \nTwo hundred years on\, in a nod to what happened in 1826\, on Saturday 18 July a fleet of vessels will navigate the canal\, making its way from the Dog and Duck area near Goole Marina\, through South Dock bridge\, around the docks and back again. \nAn interesting mix of vessels\, including cruisers\, Dutch barges\, narrow boats\, historic keels\, commercial barges\, tugs\, launches and fast ribs\, will be led by an Associated British Ports (ABP) survey vessel. The flotilla will be decorated and horns will be sounded to commemorate the port’s 200th birthday celebrations. \nThis event has been organised by Yorkshire Waterways Heritage Society as part of a programme of Waterways Heritage events taking place across the weekend. Members of the public are encouraged to view and photograph the flotilla as it makes its way around Goole Docks. \n  \nThe approximate timetable for the event is as follows: \n\n12.30pm: The flotilla will assemble in the Dog and Duck area of the canal\, close to Goole Marina\, and members of the public who gather there will be able to wave them off.\n2.00pm: Flotilla sets off.\n4.00pm: Flotilla returns to Dog and Duck before dispersing.\n\n  \nThe best vantage points from which to enjoy the flotilla include the following: \n\nThe area around Goole Marina and Spicers Auctioneers on the banks of the canal\, which can be accessed from Dutch Riverside.\nPublic walkways around the docks\, particularly the section between the Lowther Bridge and Barge Dock.\nThe two road bridges on Bridge Street at West Dock and South Dock.\nGoole Model Boat Club site on Dutch Riverside.\n\n  \nBicentenary Flotilla Photography Competition: Young people under the age of 25 are invited to take part in the Yorkshire Waterways Heritage Society’s photographic competition. DESCRIPTION:Join one of Goole Civic Society’s FREE walking tours to explore Goole’s historic docks\, which were first developed by the Aire and Calder Navigation Company ahead of the town’s official opening in July 1826. \nBy the early 20th century\, Goole had become the tenth largest port in the United Kingdom. Today\, elements of the original Georgian port layout remain\, along with docks and locks developed in the 19th and early 20th centuries\, and evidence of the town’s coal shipping past. See them for yourself on this fascinating tour\, which will also reveal some of the docks’ secrets\, including its role in the construction of the Mulberry Harbours engineered by the British military during World War II. \nLed by professional guides Sarah Cowling and Michele Thompson\, these tours will visit the dock via a public right of way\, as well as Dutch Riverside and Bridge Street.    \nThey will set off from The Lowther Hotel on Aire Street at 10.30pm\, 1pm and 4pm on Saturday 18 July\, and at 10.30pm\, 1pm and 3pm on Sunday 19 July. DESCRIPTION: On the morning of Saturday 18 July\, Goole Vikings RLFC will throw open the gates of the Victoria Pleasure Grounds so that supporters can watch the first team squad train ahead of their Betfred Championship fixture\, away at Whitehaven on Sunday.  \nThe open training session\, which takes place from 10.30am until 12 noon\, will give fans the opportunity to watch preparations at close quarters before meeting members of the squad.  \nIn the afternoon\, the focus will turn to a high-profile rugby league clash\, as a Hull KR XIII face a Leigh Leopards XIII at 1.30pm. The visit of Hull KR brings the 2025 quadruple winners to Goole following a remarkable season in which the Robins claimed the Super League Grand Final\, League Leaders’ Shield\, Challenge Cup and World Club Challenge titles.  \nIt’s hoped that both the Super League trophy and World Club Challenge trophy will be on display at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds during the day\, giving supporters the opportunity to see the silverware and have photographs taken alongside it.  \nThe visit of the Robins is also a fitting nod to rugby history in the town. Goole and Hull Kingston Rovers were both founding members of the Yorkshire Second Competition in 1898\, alongside clubs including Featherstone Rovers and York\, creating a sporting link stretching back more than 125 years.  \nIt’s free to attend the open training session\, but ticket information for the rugby league fixtures is available through the respective club websites.  \n\n Goole Vikings and Goole AFC have joined forces to deliver a packed three-day programme celebrating 200 years of Goole\, featuring four matches across football and rugby league and the chance to meet the Vikings first-team squad at an open training session. DESCRIPTION:Formed in 1997\, Goole Model Boat Club occupies a site on South Dock\, Goole\, where\, many years ago\, a pond was built for club members to exercise their fleet of impressively turned out model craft. The club meets every Saturday morning throughout the year and is opening its gates to the public as part of the Waterways Heritage Festival\, which is organised by the Yorkshire Waterways Heritage Society. Demonstrations will take place throughout the weekend and a small\, pop-up pond will be created to allow children to try their hand at piloting model craft. \nHistoric Objects: Throughout the weekend\, there will be opportunities to see elements of Goole’s industrial history up close. Goole Model Boat Club’s base is also the site of the iconic No 5 Coal Hoist\, a Grade II-Listed Building\, one of the last surviving Tom Pudding compartment boats and other items that serve as a poignant reminder of the importance played by the movement of coal in the development of the town’s port. There’s no access to the coal hoist\, but it’s an impressive monument to an industry that spanned more than 150 years. \nBicentenary Flotilla Viewpoint: On the afternoon of Saturday 18 July\, between 2pm and 4pm\, Goole Model Boat Club will offer the perfect vantage point from which to view the Bicentenary Flotilla of Vessels. Don’t miss the chance to enter the Yorkshire Waterways Heritage Society and Goole Model Boat Club’s photography competition! \nPop-up Exhibition – Railway on the Water: View an amazing collection of photographs taken in 1974 by photography student Duncan Davies\, who spent a day onboard the Tom Pudding tug\, Wheldale. The portfolio that he created captures the crew’s journey between Goole and Doncaster\, and their return journey\, loaded with coal. There will also be opportunities to see a video of the coal hoist operating have your questions answered by a former coal hoist operator. \nAccess during this weekend: Goole Model Boat Club will be open from 10am to 6pm on Saturday 18 July and 10am to 4pm on Sunday 19 July. The site must be accessed on foot from Dutch River Side\, where there is roadside parking. Please note that there is no public parking on site during this event. There is limited wheelchair access at the site and no disabled toilet.

Friends Of West Park will also welcome Charlotte Porter and The High Rollers to this year’s event\, fresh from a crowd-pleasing set at Howden Vintage Day. \nThere will be face-painting for children aged three years and above\, as well as a selection of vintage and community stalls\, and an exhibition of vintage and classic cars. \nFriends Of West Park are pleased to welcome back members of Goole District Lions Club\, which is celebrating its 60th birthday this year. To mark this very special occasion\, they will be offering plenty of family fun\, with sports activities including a tug-of-war competition\, tin can alley\, skittles and more. \nLook out for volunteers from HEY! Volunteering\, who will be providing support on the day by helping to signpost people to where they need to be. Car park spaces are limited\, so those planning on attending are encouraged to car share or walk to the venue if they can\, and advised to allow themselves plenty of time to arrive. SUMMARY:Poetry At Goole Museum
DESCRIPTION:The latest session in a series of poetry workshops for those with an interest in working in museums\, archives or the arts takes place at Goole Museum as part of the busy programme of events planned to mark the Goole’s 200th birthday. \nOrganised by East Riding of Yorkshire Council and funded by Arts Council England\, a series of Poetry At Goole Museum workshops will be led by acclaimed poets\, including Becca Drake\, Janine Bradbury\, Maia Elsner and Charlotte Shevchenko Knight. \nThe workshops coincide with the museum’s landmark exhibition celebrating the life and work of Reuben Chappell (1870-1940)\, a Goole-born artist who is internationally recognised as one of the finest ship portraitists of the pierhead painting tradition. Participants will get the opportunity to go behind the scenes at the museum\, where they can explore the archives and learn to write about art\, environment and local history. Poetry produced by those attending the workshops will be published in a collection\, alongside the work of acclaimed poets. \nBecca Drake\, one of the poets leading the sessions\, explained: “The workshops are ideal for people with an interest in writing\, or the arts and heritage. As well as working with acclaimed poets and getting a glimpse behind the scenes of the museum\, they’ll also get to see their work in print in a special poetry collection published to mark Goole’s bicentenary year.” \nFuture workshops at Goole Museum will take place on 25 July and 8 August between 11am and 1pm. For more information or to book a place\, please email goole.museum@eastriding.gov.uk. \nLater in the summer\, there will be an opportunity for others from the local community to get involved in a poetry workshop. Several workshops will also be hosted by The Moorlands Youth and Community Centre in Old Goole to give as many local young people as possible the chance to get involved. SUMMARY:Junction Goole Arting Classes: Mixed Media
DESCRIPTION:Arting is Junction Goole’s relaxed and sociable series of adult art classes and\, for 2026\, these sessions will have a ‘Goole 200’ theme. \nTwo two-hour sessions take place on each date – one at 3pm and one at 6pm. All materials\, as well as light refreshments and a finished piece to take home\, are provided.
