They will make an appearance from 2.15pm.

Today\, elements of the original Georgian port layout remain\, along with docks and locks developed in the 19th and early 20th centuries\, and evidence of the town’s coal shipping past. See them for yourself on this fascinating tour\, which will also reveal some of the docks’ secrets\, including its role in the construction of the Mulberry Harbours engineered by the British military during World War II. \nLed by professional guides Sarah Cowling and Michele Thompson\, these tours will visit the dock via a public right of way\, as well as Dutch Riverside and Bridge Street.    \nThey will set off from The Lowther Hotel on Aire Street at 10.30pm\, 1pm and 4pm on Saturday 18 July\, and at 10.30pm\, 1pm and 3pm on Sunday 19 July. Each tour will last for one hour and places can be booked in advance by clicking here. \nThere are only 25 pre-bookable places on each tour. DESCRIPTION: On the morning of Saturday 18 July\, Goole Vikings RLFC will throw open the gates of the Victoria Pleasure Grounds so that supporters can watch the first team squad train ahead of their Betfred Championship fixture\, away at Whitehaven on Sunday.  \nThe open training session\, which takes place from 10.30am until 12 noon\, will give fans the opportunity to watch preparations at close quarters before meeting members of the squad.  \nIn the afternoon\, the focus will turn to a high-profile rugby league clash\, as a Hull KR XIII face a Leigh Leopards XIII at 1.30pm. The visit of Hull KR brings the 2025 quadruple winners to Goole following a remarkable season in which the Robins claimed the Super League Grand Final\, League Leaders’ Shield\, Challenge Cup and World Club Challenge titles.  \nIt’s hoped that both the Super League trophy and World Club Challenge trophy will be on display at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds during the day\, giving supporters the opportunity to see the silverware and have photographs taken alongside it.  \nThe visit of the Robins is also a fitting nod to rugby history in the town. Goole and Hull Kingston Rovers were both founding members of the Yorkshire Second Competition in 1898\, alongside clubs including Featherstone Rovers and York\, creating a sporting link stretching back more than 125 years.  \nIt’s free to attend the open training session\, but ticket information for the rugby league fixtures is available through the respective club websites.  \n\n Goole Vikings and Goole AFC have joined forces to deliver a packed three-day programme celebrating 200 years of Goole\, featuring four matches across football and rugby league and the chance to meet the Vikings first-team squad at an open training session. SUMMARY:Goole Model Boat Club Open Days
DESCRIPTION:Formed in 1997\, Goole Model Boat Club occupies a site on South Dock\, Goole\, where\, many years ago\, a pond was built for club members to exercise their fleet of impressively turned out model craft. The club meets every Saturday morning throughout the year and is opening its gates to the public as part of the Waterways Heritage Festival\, which is organised by the Yorkshire Waterways Heritage Society. Demonstrations will take place throughout the weekend and a small\, pop-up pond will be created to allow children to try their hand at piloting model craft. \nHistoric Objects: Throughout the weekend\, there will be opportunities to see elements of Goole’s industrial history up close. Goole Model Boat Club’s base is also the site of the iconic No 5 Coal Hoist\, a Grade II-Listed Building\, one of the last surviving Tom Pudding compartment boats and other items that serve as a poignant reminder of the importance played by the movement of coal in the development of the town’s port. There’s no access to the coal hoist\, but it’s an impressive monument to an industry that spanned more than 150 years. \nBicentenary Flotilla Viewpoint: On the afternoon of Saturday 18 July\, between 2pm and 4pm\, Goole Model Boat Club will offer the perfect vantage point from which to view the Bicentenary Flotilla of Vessels. Don’t miss the chance to enter the Yorkshire Waterways Heritage Society and Goole Model Boat Club’s photography competition! \nPop-up Exhibition – Railway on the Water: View an amazing collection of photographs taken in 1974 by photography student Duncan Davies\, who spent a day onboard the Tom Pudding tug\, Wheldale. The portfolio that he created captures the crew’s journey between Goole and Doncaster\, and their return journey\, loaded with coal. There will also be opportunities to see a video of the coal hoist operating have your questions answered by a former coal hoist operator. \nAccess during this weekend: Goole Model Boat Club will be open from 10am to 6pm on Saturday 18 July and 10am to 4pm on Sunday 19 July. The site must be accessed on foot from Dutch River Side\, where there is roadside parking. Please note that there is no public parking on site during this event. There is limited wheelchair access at the site and no disabled toilet.

DESCRIPTION:As part of its Waterways Heritage Festival\, which is taking place across the weekend\, Yorkshire Waterways Heritage Society is running a photography competition for young people under the age of 25 years to coincide with the Flotilla Of Vessels. \nAlthough the flotilla’s procession around the docks will take place on Saturday 18 July\, vessels will be arriving and congregating in Goole from Friday 17\, so there will be plenty of opportunity to capture images on both days. Entrants are encouraged to photograph and video what they see happening on the canal and in the docks the day before the Flotilla Of Vessels and on the actual day of the event. \nAll entries must be submitted to Yorkshire Waterways Heritage Society before midnight on 18 July. DESCRIPTION:Friends Of West Park Goole’s Vintage In The Park event returns on Sunday 12 July\, from 12 noon to 4pm\, at West Park Goole. \nAdmission is free of charge and everyone is welcome. West Park’s Cafe will be open and the Nags Shed Bar will be attending to allow those attending to raise a toast to Goole’s 200th birthday year. \nThere will be music on the bandstand from the ever-popular Paddy O’Kaye\, who will be spinning hits from the 1940s\, 50s and 60s. Friends Of West Park will also welcome Charlotte Porter and The High Rollers to this year’s event\, fresh from a crowd-pleasing set at Howden Vintage Day. \nThere will be face-painting for children aged three years and above\, as well as a selection of vintage and community stalls\, and an exhibition of vintage and classic cars. \nFriends Of West Park are pleased to welcome back members of Goole District Lions Club\, which is celebrating its 60th birthday this year. To mark this very special occasion\, they will be offering plenty of family fun\, with sports activities including a tug-of-war competition\, tin can alley\, skittles and more. \nLook out for volunteers from HEY! Volunteering\, who will be providing support on the day by helping to signpost people to where they need to be. Car park spaces are limited\, so those planning on attending are encouraged to car share or walk to the venue if they can\, and advised to allow themselves plenty of time to arrive. Please remember that this event is run entirely by volunteers. \nEast Yorkshire Thoroughbred Club (EYTC) is kindly stewarding and marshalling the vintage and classic cars on display. Vintage cars are preferred and anyone who would like to bring one is asked to pre-book using the link provided on the dedicated event page on the EYTC website. DESCRIPTION:The latest session in a series of poetry workshops for those with an interest in working in museums\, archives or the arts takes place at Goole Museum as part of the busy programme of events planned to mark the Goole’s 200th birthday. \nOrganised by East Riding of Yorkshire Council and funded by Arts Council England\, a series of Poetry At Goole Museum workshops will be led by acclaimed poets\, including Becca Drake\, Janine Bradbury\, Maia Elsner and Charlotte Shevchenko Knight. \nThe workshops coincide with the museum’s landmark exhibition celebrating the life and work of Reuben Chappell (1870-1940)\, a Goole-born artist who is internationally recognised as one of the finest ship portraitists of the pierhead painting tradition. Participants will get the opportunity to go behind the scenes at the museum\, where they can explore the archives and learn to write about art\, environment and local history. Poetry produced by those attending the workshops will be published in a collection\, alongside the work of acclaimed poets. \nBecca Drake\, one of the poets leading the sessions\, explained: “The workshops are ideal for people with an interest in writing\, or the arts and heritage. As well as working with acclaimed poets and getting a glimpse behind the scenes of the museum\, they’ll also get to see their work in print in a special poetry collection published to mark Goole’s bicentenary year.” \nFuture workshops at Goole Museum will take place on 25 July and 8 August between 11am and 1pm. DESCRIPTION:Goole Vikings will take on Widnes Vikings at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds after the Betfred Championship calendar was reshaped following Featherstone Rovers’ withdrawal from the competition. \nThe two clubs agreed the dates for the newly scheduled fixtures earlier this year\, setting the stage for what has been dubbed ‘The Clash of The Vikings’. The fixtures will see two towns sharing one iconic identity going head-to-head in a unique Championship rivalry played out across two venues. \nIt seems particularly fitting that Goole Vikings’ home fixture will take place during the town’s 200th birthday month\, when a busy programme of community events\, activities and celebrations is planned and the home crowd is sure to be in a celebratory mood. \nBoth clubs are set to collaborate on a joint campaign around the fixtures\, celebrating their shared Viking heritage. \nWidnes is one of the sport’s oldest clubs and has a passionate fan base\, whilst Goole is rugby league’s newest side\, reigniting the sport that was first played in the town in the 1800s at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds\, which remains their home to this day. \nFurther ticket information and promotional details for The Clash of The Vikings will be released on the Goole Vikings RLFC website in due course.

DESCRIPTION:Arting is Junction Goole’s relaxed and sociable series of adult art classes and\, for 2026\, these sessions will have a ‘Goole 200’ theme. \nTwo two-hour sessions take place on each date – one at 3pm and one at 6pm. All materials\, as well as light refreshments and a finished piece to take home\, are provided. SUMMARY:Goole 2026 Poetry Competition closing date
DESCRIPTION:Entries are now being accepted for Goole Library’s ‘Goole 2026’ Poetry Competition ahead of the closing date on Sunday 21 June. \nTo take part\, entrants should submit a poem about Goole. For example\, it could be about living in the town or written from the perspective of a Goole resident past or present. \nThere are categories for primary school age children\, secondary school students and adults (over the age of 16 years) to enter. The winner of each category will receive a cash prize (£60\, £90 and £100 respectively) and the runners-up will each receive a Goole 2026 commemorative ‘salt and pepper pot’ cruet set. Certificates will also be provided. \nAll of the prizes are being funded and provided by Goole Civic Society\, and the winning entries will be published in a booklet\, the creation of which will also be funded by Goole Civic Society. \nEntries should be submitted to Goole Library\, either by emailing goole.library@eastriding.gov.uk or by handing a hard copy in to library staff. Entrants should include their name\, address and contact details\, but this information should not appear on the poem itself. \nAny personal information will be redacted before the poems are considered by the judging panel\, which is made up of Margaret Hicks-Clarke\, Chair of Goole Civic Society and a member of the Goole 2026 Bicentenary Group; Georgina Petty\, Vice Chair of the Goole 2026 Bicentenary Group and Chair of Friends of West Park; and Janet Porter\, a member of the Goole 2026 Bicentenary Group. \nTerms and conditions: \n\n Poems must be no more than 45 lines in length\, have a connection to the ‘Goole’ theme and be typed clearly. \nThey must be the original work of the named entrant\, written in English and should not have been published\, broadcast or have previously won a competition prize.\nNo alterations can be made to a poem once it has been submitted.\nEntrants can submit more than one poem\, but they must be on separate pages.\nThe name of the poet must not appear in or on the poem itself.\nEntries cannot be returned\, so entrants should retain a copy of their work.\nThe decision of the judging panel is final and no correspondence will be entered into.\nCopyright remains with the poet\, but competition organisers reserve the right to publish the winning poems online or in print for one year after the closing date of the competition.\nThe organisers also reserve the right to alter details of the competition if necessary.\nAll entries must be received by Sunday 21 June 2026.
