SUMMARY:Lantern Parade
DESCRIPTION:East Riding of Yorkshire Council is staging a special Lantern Parade to mark Goole’s bicentenary year\, which will form part of the town’s hugely popular annual Bonfire Night celebrations at West Park on Thursday 5 November. \nHundreds of local people\, representing schools and community groups that have been involved in a series of creative lantern-making workshops during the summer months\, will kick-start this year’s event by parading through West Park ahead of the bonfire and firework display\, which is organised by Goole Town Council. \nFamilies In Goole (FIG)\, Goole District Lions Club\, the Huddle Goole CIC (Community Interest Company)\, HEY Volunteering\, The Moorlands Youth and Community Centre\, Castaway Goole\, the BSL (British Sign Language) Cafe\, Boothferry Primary School\, Parkside Primary School\, Riverside Community Special School and Marshlands Primary School have all been involved in the lantern-making workshops\, which were led by Animated Objects on behalf of East Riding of Yorkshire Council. \nFunding for the project came from Arts Council England and is also being used to commission a lighting installation in West Park\, which is being created by Scarborough-based Animated Objects\, a company specialising in large-scale events\, outdoor theatre\, giant artworks and performances involving professional artists\, schools and the wider community. \nA wide variety of partner organisations have come together to plan an on-going programme of events\, activities and celebrations to mark Goole’s bicentenary year in 2026. Among them are local businesses and the many community and voluntary sector organisations that make up the Goole 2026 Community Group\, as well as East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Goole Town Council. \nThe Bicentenary Lantern Parade follows on from the resounding success of the Shine On Goole events in March\, a busy long-weekend of community-led celebrations in July and the visit to Goole of the internationally-renowned Helios art installation in September\, not to mention a host of other events and activities that have been taking place throughout the year. \nCouncillor Nick Coultish\, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture\, Leisure and Tourism\, said: “Goole’s annual Bonfire Night celebration is always a hugely popular event in the calendar\, but the Bicentenary Lantern Parade will add an extra special dimension to this year’s event\, to mark our town’s 200th Birthday. \n“It’s wonderful that so many local people of all ages have been involved in making bicentenary-themed lanterns for this year’s event and very fitting that they will also be taking part in a Lantern Parade around West Park before the bonfire to show off the results of their hard work. The Lantern Parade promises to be a wonderful spectacle\, not to mention a fantastic addition to this year’s Bonfire Night celebrations.” \n\nThe bonfire\, Lantern Parade and firework display will begin at 6pm\, but the gates to West Park wil be open from 4pm so that people can enjoy the funfair rides and stalls. \n\nFor more information about this year’s Bonfire and Fireworks Display\, including details how to book tickets\, click here. \n \n  \n\n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nAbove are from some of the lantern-making workshops led by Animated Objects and involving local schools and community groups are supplied.
